Ugh....this is the second time I am writing this post because the first one was lost in space. I think it was too long to upload so I will split it up this time.
Today we did not need to rush to do adoption paperwork so we slept in a bit. Jinbao started to wiggle around under the covers around 9:00 then made a "fart" noise on his arm and began to giggle. I guess I didn't need to worry about that list the kids wrote for me! :) Then he skyped with Matthew and Makenna. They practiced Chinese and English by saying the words for the parts of the face back and forth to each other. They had fun and were laughing a lot.
After breakfast we went to the St. Sophia church which was built Russian style. Harbin was once occupied by Russians and is close to Russia so there is a lot of influence on the food and buildings.
Harbin is also known for it's ice sculpture festival in the winter. They take ice from the Songhuajiang River and build the sculptures on the north bank. Of course we missed it by about 6 months but there is a room of replicas in a basement along the main street. Jinbao and our guide did not want to go since they already see the real thing year after year, so Andrew and I braved the freezing temperatures by ourselves to check it out. They handed us winter jackets, booties and leg warmers to put on before we went inside. Then a photographer took a few pictures of us inside and did not charge extra. We had the place to ourselves so we could be silly and act like kids again:) I wish Jinbao had come along but I think he got a kick out of our pictures when we showed him.
I will post the pictures separately.
Thanks for following! Donna
